Krung People

Hilltribe, Rattanakiri, Cambodia 2000

The Krung people live with other Hill-tribe Peoples in the rain forest of North Cambodia on the Laos and Vietnam border. They still live almost totally from the forest. They know hundreds of terms for "Green" and have a unigue fifteen year cultivation cycle.

There are seers among the women who can heal people using dreams. The young people leave their parents when they are twelve or thirteen and live in their own huts with friends. There they find their future partners.

Illegal tree-felling by Taiwanese companies is threatening to drive away the Hill-tribe Peoples and to destroy the National park there. This is tolerated by the government in distant Phnom Penh which also profits by it. The organised voice of the Hill-tribe Peoples and the NGOs which support them is not being heard. Their future prospects don't look so good.
